The Influence of Sexual Identity on Higher Education Outcomes
Abstract:
This
session is for people interested in learning more about how sexual identity
influences psychological and higher education outcomes. Academic and social integration variables are
studied in relation to psychological characteristics (self-esteem, social
support, and internalized stigma,) and sexual identity. Responses from over 1,100 college students
are examined and statistically significant relationships are highlighted in
easy-to-understand, non-jargon language. The program concludes with a
discussion on the practical implications of these findings as well as ideas for
future research.
