This research examines papers from graduate students enrolled in online courses at Georgia Southern University to see if receiving a motivational email message from the instructor increases the word count, number of in-text citations, number of citations used in the references, and the number of times a student linked multiple citations to support a claim.
I'm asking my colleagues in the College of Education to consider participating in the study if it fits in a Spring 2019 course you're teaching. It won't take much of your time. I ask you to post a recruitment announcement, email selected students a week before the due date, and download the papers to a flash drive.
Participating in this research project will take virtually no extra time for students. When they opt-in, they'll fill out an online demographic survey which will take about one minute. Then, for those selected to receive the email, they'll spend about one minute reading it. That's it for them! The use of their papers is most valuable part of this research.
